VANDANA SHIVA is an Indian scholar, scientist, food sovereignty activist and anti-globalization author. Vandana has authored more than twenty books. She is one of the leaders and board members the International Forum on Globalization, and a figure of the global solidarity movement known as the alter-globalization movement.[4] She has argued for the wisdom of many traditional farming practices in India and worldwide. She is a member of the scientific committee of the Fundacion IDEAS, Spain’s Socialist Party’s think tank She is also a member of the International Organization for a Participatory Society. She received the Right Livelihood Award in 1993, and numerous other prizes.
ADELITA SAN VICENTE TELLO directs Fundación Semillas de Vida (Seeds of Life Foundation) in Mexico. She holds an Agronomist Master’s Degree in Rural Development from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Xochimilco, specialized in Economics of Agrifood System in Viterbo, Italy and is an Agroecology PhD candidate at the University of Medellin, Colombia. Adelita has collaborated with various non-governmental organizations and farmers developing training programs, environmental education and planning for the sustainable management of natural resources resulting in the publication of manuals that systematize the experiences. She has also held positions linked to the rural sector in various institutions and governments, at both the municipal and federal levels. In 2009 she was part of the organizers of the national campaign Sin Maíz, No Hay País – Without Corn There is No Country, to fight for food sovereignty. That struggle continues to this day.
SAGE LA PENA is a Clinical Herbalist, ethno-botanist, lecturer, teacher, and gardener specializing in both Native American and Western herbal traditions. From the age of 7, Sage has been working with local medicine people from her tribe, the Northern Wintu (California), and other neighboring tribes. Sage maintains a strong connection with her tribe through continued participation in ceremonial and cultural activities. Sage was a Community Health Representative for two years after her clinical internship with Sonoma County Indian Health, assisting clients with diabetes care, nutritional counseling and doctor patient translation. Sage is actively involved in watershed management projects and is currently the Water Resource Coordinator for the Hopland Band of Pomo Indians.
KANYON SAYERS-ROODS is a Native American artist, singer, web designer and poet. She works as a youth educator, teaching traditional Native American cultural methods of living. Kanyon grew up in Indian Canyon, California, one of the few federally recognized sanctuaries for Native American sanctuary and ceremony. She earned her degrees, in both art and web design, at the Art Institute of California.
